COVID-19 continues to impact on our communities and workplaces. Recently, both CP and BNSF have sent out information on their requirements for wearing a mask or facial covering at the workplace in efforts to combat the spread of this disease.
On July 24th, BNSF published an article on its Employee Portal titled “No exceptions to BNSF face covering requirement.” This article reminded BNSF employees of the requirements and recommendations around the wear of face coverings at work, and specifically referred to the state of Minnesota’s requirement for the wear of face coverings indoors.
CP has also published similar information for its employees, under the subject “Mandatory Face Coverings.” Effective July 28, face coverings will be required in common areas of all CP buildings. This change includes Engineering section facilities, storage facilities, training centers, washrooms, locker rooms, and other common areas. Where physical distancing cannot be maintained, mask use is also mandatory at personal workspaces and desks.
The State of Minnesota, through Emergency Executive Order 20-81, requires people in Minnesota to wear a face covering in indoor businesses and indoor public settings. The State of Illinois has similar requirements for mask wear in public spaces.
We remind our members to be prepared for and follow the requirements set out by their state or their railroad to help prevent the spread of illness. More COVID-19 related information and resources can be found at bmwedburlington.org.
