Whether it is for an expected leave of absence, an unexpected furlough, or time away due to medical reasons, when you are not getting compensated by your railroad, your dues are not being deducted or remitted to the union.
Members who wish to remain in good standing with the BMWED, per our Bylaws, must make timely dues payments. Good standing with the union affects your ability to run for and hold union office, vote on union matters, and enjoy other privileges of union membership.
If you receive less than forty (40) hours’ compensation in a month, you can pay the non-working dues rate to maintain good standing with the union. For our members, non-working dues are:
Class I (BNSF, CP, LS&I, NICTD, Metra) — $19.53 per month
Class II (IAIS) — $16.67 per month
Non-working dues must be paid by the member directly, they are not deducted from payroll. If you are paying non-working dues to remain in good standing, please contact the System Office for details on how to do so.
